The name mahadevtilla also known as "Lamdukan" in Kuki language, it is called Lamdukan since the majority of the shops belongs and living people are the Kuki. The word 'Lam' means 'way' and 'dukan' mean shop, which mean shop on the way to". From Lamdukan there is five main road that you can take, the first road is lamdukan to haflong town, the second one is lamdukan to district council, the third one is lamdukan to lower haflong, the fourth way is to Silchar, new haflong station, and mahur town.

From the Principal’s Desk: Haflong Government College completed its 50th year of glorious existence on 4th September 2011. The college which commenced its journey as a private night-college with only Pre-university arts classes at the Cultural Institute hall and 50 students on its roll with few subjects in Arts. Later on it was shifted to its present site in 1964. In the course of time, the college was converted to a day- college retaining the night section as an additional shift. At present the college flourished to three streams with the addition of Science and Commerce. Moreover, under the patronage of Autonomous Council today, PG teaching is done in the College in two subjects since 1997. It has also gone for an institutional alliance with NIIT Ltd. A certificate of appreciation has been granted to the college by NIIT for its initiative to enrich IT education. Since its inception in January 2007, IGNOU has been providing quality education to the people of this district. This college can legitimately take credit in producing a large number of graduates over the years and enabling them to occupy high position in the society either as Doctor, Engineers, Magistrates, Administrators, teachers or political leaders and serve the society with distinction.
